For years the creater of Sysmon used Zabbix in serveral company's. It a great FREE opensource monitoring tool, but there was also need for a good Configuration management database. There are plenty of
good opensource cmdb's like i-doit, but everytime you need to add your servers on both applications. This can leed to several problems with your aministration.
There for we created Sysmon! Sysmon is based on Zabbix. We didn't change any source code from zabbix but we create a application that connects to Zabbix.
Sysmon extends Zabbix with a easy to understand interface with a CMDB and asset management module.
How does Sysmon work?
On your servers, a Zabbix agent is started. This agent takes care of collecting data and sending it to the Sysmon server. Translation and interpretation is handled fully by the Sysmon server. If a certain activity takes place, an alert will be sent to your email address. In addition, you can check live statistics and trending information, 24 hours a day.
The Zabbix agent uses outgoing initiated packages, so there is no need to open ports in your firewall!
